This week, Scarlet’s adventure continues in part 2, as she finds a stray in the street (though you’ll have to read the story to see what KIND of stray) and meets one of the strange strangers her parents warned her about.

Zombies Roam the Street

Plainfield Avenue was clogged with zombies. Zombies teetering and tottering, wobbling and weaving, schlepping and shuffling down the cobbled, mobbed, and mudpuddled promenade. At their feet crawled stray parts trying to find their way home. The fingers of loose arms pulled themselves persistently ahead. Heels dug in and flexed legs forward. Ears and noses advanced with tiny flexings.

Scarlet surveyed the undead parade from the top of the stoop. She threw back her shoulders and inhaled the smell of mold and putrescence. It smelled as wonderful and dangerous as freedom. …
